New thermostats for a super C require an additional retainer ring. If the old thermostat was original it will be thicker where it sets in the pipeline than the new one. You can get a retainer ring to install with the new thermostat that will make up the difference in thickness. Without the retainer ring the new thermostat will not be held in place and can float around.
