We had a '56 S-180 on the farm for many years. I believe it was essentially the same truck as yours, only heavier (ours had a 16' dump box.) Good old truck! We sold it about 20 years ago - it is still soldiering on as a yard goat at a neighbor's grain plant. Aside from it being slow (307 six with a 5 & 2) about the only shortcoming was the Bendix Hydrovac hydraulic brakes. When the truck was loaded (34,000 GVW) they were marginal at best, even when everything was working and adjusted properly. You would however probably be fine carrying a C and trailering an H, so long as the trailer has good brakes. And plan on a leisurely trip - avoid the interstate! Tip: Convert the electrics to 12 volts. It'll start and run much better, and the electric 2 speed will shift MUCH more reliably.
