Paul, if you're cylinders are like mine (pictured), they were pretty danged tight. I unhooked them at the top end, then glommed onto the caps with a large pipe wrench (I used a 48 inch pipe wrench) and got them to bust loose. It took a pretty good yank even with the large wrench. I suppose I really didn't need to unhook them at the top end to break them loose, but you will to get the cap all the way off. Inside you will find the ram is a hollow tube capped at the top end, all the seals are in the cap that you just busted loose. Only thing on that ram is a steel retaining ring at the bottom end that rides on the inside diameter of the tube. BTW, that ain't me in the picture, that's my friend Sean, I asked him to stand in front of the busted up part of the loader. Poor Sean has to drive a Kubota...
