I have done that swap in reverse to install a 400 fast hitch on a SMTA. In order words, I put a 400 lid on a SMTA tub. You should have no problems. If it were me, I would change out the tub and lid and find a fast hitch to go with the new parts. The 400 lid will need several holes drilled to accept the steering post of the SMTA. While I was at it, I also put 560 gears and bearings in the tractor. I wanted the slower first gear as well as the slower ring and pinion of the 560. I didn't need to change out the bearings but I noticed they were bigger and I assumed better. I now have a SMTA that creeps in first gear low range and has a top speed around 11 MPH. Perfect.
