My Dad was a JD mechanic on the 2 cylinders for years and they recommended soaking the head gaskets in water. Not really sure why. I have used aluminum paint on automotive head gaskets and used the copper spray stuff on the last one I put on my SMTA. It seems to have worked but maybe would have been the same dry too. Think the main thing is making sure surfaces are completely clean and head is flat.
