There is a problem with methanol (an alcohol) when used in gasoline. Methanol will eat plastics and rubber/synthetics in gaskets and paint!!! Because this type of alcohol is rough on systems, it is not used anymore to my knoledge. Ethanol is the type used in gasoline today (plain old grain alcohol that one can drink in its beverage form). this is no problem, and has the side bennefit of assisting in the removal of water from fuel systems, and the near total elimination of deposits on plugs and combustion chambers. There is also some MTBE doped fuel (stands for Methyl tertiary Butyl Ether) the Methyl group in this relitively nasty stuff causes similar problems to methyl alcohol. Last item, dry gas, or other fuel line antifreezes are often Methyl Alcohol. Do not use them as they are hard on the plastics (as noted above) and redundant for H2O in the gas. Hope this helps. JimN
