Well I might be a little bias here but as far as I can see you just cant beat a mag when there fresh they throw a heck of a spark at rpm compared to a dist. Back in the days the old farmers wanted parts and they were terible exspencive close to 100.00 Just for a coil and they said the heck with this thing I dont understand how it works anyways and if a coil costs that much how much will the next thing cost. So along came the dist a simple mechanism that the battery makes spark well thats easy.Even though they burn the points up usally 10 times as fast as a mag.Well now mag parts are very reasonable along with coils under 40.00.Alot of people still cant seem to grasp the concept of a mag being able to make there own power and get them and hook up the Bat wire to them and the points melt right around in a circle,And Condenser and coil damage. So if you get one dont ever bring a power wire anywhere near it.Just a grounding switch. But I have ran my 51 H with a mag for 25 years and maybe rebuilt it twice. And she revs and doesnt miss a beat. My SM with the dist well thats a different story. 2 to 3 sets of points a year and she seems to skip here and there under a load at the pulls. She maybe getting a Mag next. MagMan
