You need a supplied air system for isocyanates in the hardener, not just a charcoal mask. Not absolutely saying it won't work, but as a general rule if you put hardened paint over unhardened, uncured paint, the paint will lift. The hardened and unhardened paint cure differently. And, hardener will not necessarily protect it from gas -- found that out the hard way. As to preparing the surface, you can try sanding, but with uncured paint, I doubt if it will work. The best way is to strip it and start over, I realize you don't want to hear that. Check DuPonts tech sheet and see if it has a recoat interval, that is how long you have to recoat before you have to sand -- that won't help your dent though.
