M starter problem update

Thanks to all who gave suggestions. I tried Jossette's idea. The 12V spun it good. I grabbed the alternator off the pickup I was building, got a Resistor from O'Reilly's and hooked it. After I flooded it, We pull started it and set the timing and adjusted the carb. Now it starts good but the alternator was bad, so its back to the parts store for a rebuilt one. I am also gonna check into having my generator converted to 12 volt. Anyone else had this done?
