Robert - So long as the worm fully engages the pivot shaft gear don't be concerned if the two gears are not centered exactly in the vertical plane. (Having the pivot shaft gear 3/16" or so above or below center is acceptable). Don't worry about the up and down play in the pivot shaft - a little play here is normal. My SH has 1/2" of of vertical free play in the pivot shaft - it exhibits no wheel shimmy whatsoever. For "no shimmy" steering what is important is that there be absolutely NO detectable radial (horizontal) play at the top of the pivot shaft after the new upper bushing is installed!
