That"s a difficult one. I bought a 340U last year, and paid $2750. It"s a great tractor, but what is a good price really depends upon what you may have to fix. I would have to ask the question as to why the steering arms were bent in the first place. Likely the previous owner had a loader on it, which if used hard puts a great deal of strain on the steering components. I"ve read on this forum that a worn steering gear mechanism necessitates replacement of the steering box, and steering boxes are apparently quite expensive. Try a search on "340 steering" or something similar. Parts are available - I had to replace the front axle on mine because the adjustable legs were out at the max position and permanently frozen. I bought a replacement mailorder from JPTractor.com (they"re in Missouri, I believe). You might check with them first about the price and availability of steering components. I can tell you that the steering ball joints are $60 and $120 each for the front and rear joints on the link rods, respectively. If you want to replace sheet metal, the side trim pieces run about $30-40 per piece as I recall. So is $1500 a good price? It might be. But it really depends upon what you"ve got to do, to get it to what you want it to be. It"s good to know ahead of time what you"re up against, because my experience is that it will be at least twice what you estimate.
