Yep captian, I think you're right- the head's gonna have to come off before it gets run much more. When I first got it running, the "phhht" and the white smoke was there until it warmed up, then it actually sounded pretty good. I've only warmed it up and really used it maybe two or three times, probably three hours total warm running time, and it has since developed that "pop" and it seems a bit more pronounced each time I run it. Which tells me that things aren't getting any better in there and it's most likely not one of those things that will "fix itself" with use. Nick- you're right about Opheim. Their shop's about 28 miles from us. One of my earliest memories is that we had a 560D that the engine went bad on, and we took it to them and they put a gasser engine in it. His son in law(I think), Tony Booth, still runs the shop and still works on some red iron. Had a good conversation with him at an auction last summer when I was trying to get the injector pump on this 650 sorted out.
