Allan, In my day we did the dome lites inside the car, I also did the dash lites. But what I found was fingernail polish would turn black from the heat, It was OK for the dome lite if you didn't leave the door open to long. I then went to hi-temp engine paint and it worked like a champ, and it works best it you dip the bulb. a thin coat where you can still see inside the bulb is best.
