dick: I'm suspecting from what you say, tractor is actually a Super A rather than A. Farmall A didn't have hydraulics. I assume the tractor has touch control with rockshafts on either side of fuel tank. That being the case, mower bars can be raised very simple by running a pull rod from rockshaft to lift mechanism of mower. Usually these went back between left rear tire and fender. I had a factory set up years ago and it was just a piece of 3/8 steel rod about 6' to 8'. Usually they put a short piece of chain or turnbuckle on the end to give adjustment. All the factory rear mounted and semi-mounted mower bars on Super A and Super C were lifted that way years ago. If the mower is not IH, you may have to modify the mower a bit. We had an IH mower and later NH and in both cases mower bar was lifted by that means. It's economical and it works well.
