Hydraulic Pump Gear

Is the drive gear for the hydraulic pump on a 300 supposed to have a second keyway groove? Or is this one worn? Right beside the main groove,there is another one off to one side and its exactly the length of the key.You would slip down the main groove and then rotate the gear in one direction to drop into this short groove.Is this a locking feature or is that just wear from a loose gear?
