A week spot to look at.... The whole charging system of an H depends on the contact the front of the switch box makes with the back of the switch box (the unit that contains the rotary switch and the ammeter). If the two halfs are rusty and not making good contact it may not charge. Try taking it apart and cleaning the rim where they slide together.
Your valves can easily be adjusted once the valve cover is removed. An IT manual is a great investment.
