Blue smoke == oil
White smoke == water (not a new Pope in this case) :>)
Black == excessive fuel.

If smokes black, either the carburetor needs adjustment, or the fuel level is too high in the carburetor because the needle and seat valve are bad or the float is set wrong. (Possibly a bad float too).

If the smoke is white, you should be seeing your coolant level dropping in the radiator and you have more serious problems than worn valve guides.

If it smokes blue, doesn’t have any blow by or use more than a couple quarts of oil in 16 hours of working, and doesn’t foul out the spark plugs, I would go have a hot toddy, and quit worrying about it. Those old Farmall’s will not fall apart just because they smoke a little bit and will run a long time, just make sure you keep enough oil in the engine.

Now, if you really want to tear it apart, I’d recommend doing the whole engine, not just the head. Many times doing the head will up the vacuum on intake, and compression enough to increase oil consumption past the older worn rings and cylinder wall.
