Engine, clutch, and TA life depend on how well it was taken care of. Clutch and TA aren't quite as reliable as a Deere Quad-Range, but a lot cheaper and easier to repair. The IH diesel dosen't have head gasket issues like Deeres. Only major issue with the 86 series was the shift linkage, tends to wear out fast and gets hard to find the gears. If you keep them adjusted and understand what's going on, they aren't too bad. The rear ends are real tough, but once again, depends on if it was abused or not. A good 400 series diesel will start a little easier than a 4430 or 4440. Using the block heater is a must below freezing.
