In the Laura Ingals Wilder book, Farmer Boy, When they had an untimely cold snap and frost after the corn was up, the entire family got up and loaded barrels of water in the wagon, walked the rows, pouring water on each plant. The ones that they did before the sun came up were saved. The ones after sunup were lost. Never tried it myself so don't know if will work or not. With the unseasonal weather, I just thought it interesting. Of course they only had 4 acres of corn and 6 members of the family.
