Looking for advice on how to proceed regarding fluid changes for a Farmall 400 which sat idle for a number of years. I have changed all fluids twice. However, the engine oil and hydraulic system oil comes out as black as the first time I changed it. Also, I noted what appeared to be metal filings in the engine oil filter assembly and white foam where engine oil is added ( located forward of the hyraulic pump). The engine oil pressure indicates good (high end of the scale) at all power settings. However, engine performance is sluggish which was partially attributed to govern and/or distrubutor shaft problems (as previously suggested by the Farmall discussion group). The hydraulic system appears to be functioning properly as the Dual 350 loader operates nicly. Should I consider adding SeaFoam to the engine oil? What can be added to the hydraulic system to address mositure contamination? Note that I am using a turbo quality oil for the engine and Case-IH Hytran for the hydraulic system. Also, are there any add-ons available to the hydraulic system (i.e., filters) that would extend fluid life and/or enhance performance? Thanks in advance.
