I think it was a batch of winter gas they sent you. Has all the anitfreeze, what have you to keep it in better shape in the colder months. My C263 looked pretty good when I re ringed it. Pistons in it were so carboned up,,, but it hasnt done much damage. The carbon floated around in the chamber, and would lodged in the exhaust valve and burn it up. Always burned valves,,, it burned oil. Guides were bad in the old head. 3 intake valves were leaking oil into the chamber. You could see a nice little oil trail rite on to the top of the pistons. Man, build up wasnt the word for it, I scrubbed on the pistons with a tooth brush and kerosine for quite a while to get the parts cleaned up. The rings looked ok, block looked good too, I pulled my tractor last Thanksgiving At USAP down in Princeton, Indiana, the fuel pump died in it, but thats another story,, while it was pulling, it was shooting sparks out the straight pipe, it has about a 38 inch tall stack on it, so I guess when I blew the carbon out of it,, the 460 took me seriously. The new head I got for it, looked real good, new guides, valves, the whole 9 yards. Even had to plain the head .005 to straighten it up. So, when the machinist checked the valves in it,, to check the flow,, he poured a bit of oil on the valves to see if it would pull oil in to the chamber, sure enough,, oil leaked. He fixed that, so it should be good to go. I havent got it back on yet, but its raining, and real nasty out, just dont like to put it together in this kind of weather. Now,, on that 706 I rebuilt earlier in the year,, I got a progress report from it,, so I paid the tractor a visit. He says it runs good, I pulled out the plugs in it to make sure no oil was in the chamber,, Plugs looked super, good color, I shined a flashlite down in to the spark plug hole to see the piston heads,, and they were clean! He is running 89 octane in it, says it loves the feed grinder! Next time that causes carbon trouble,, Id have a look at the guides and seals,, if its also pulling a small amount of oil in the chamber,, not much, and youd probably not see much out the pipe,, the oil can raise the combustion chamber temperature quite a bit, and leave build up, and mixes real well with the bad gas residue, leaves a nice residue on parts.
