435,000 on it. Always been faithful, put in an injection pump at
300,000 and a tranny at 3?0,000. My '96 Power Stroke has
270,000 on and is still going strong with no indication of being

faithful and has left me stranded on several occasions. The main
culprit has been the computer. Being a Power Stroke, it has to
have that computer to run. Replaced that, not cheap, but
everything is good now. It has a manual 5 speed transmission,
which I like, but Ford used a two piece flywheel with springs,
presumably to cushion and "sissyfy" that big motor. Well, guess
what? That went to pieces at 180,000. I upfitted it with a solid
flywheel- much better. The other wierd thing is the serpentine
belt on the front of the motor. As you know, one belt goes
around all the engine driven components. All you need is for just
one of those to go to pieces and you are stranded again. Some
of the idler pulleys have had the bearing go out multiple times-
on the same pulley. I now carry spare bearings in the glove box.
It left me stuck in Chicago once and north of Milwaukee once.
How fun is that? At least the '90 could always limp home.
I guess what I'm saying is that I love the truck, and will upgrade
to the same thing, only newer, and they last longer than a
person might think, but more complicated isn't always better, in
my opinion. I guess that part is here to stay though. BTW, I've
never done injector O-rings on it.
