Why spend the extra money for a one-wire alternator, when a $2.00 diode or a simple "idiot light" and a piece of wire, will set up a 3-wire, standard system?

And, down the road, if the alternator ever needs changing or repairing, a standard unit will replace it, or standard parts will repair it?

I think the one-wire units have caused endless misery, when one fails down the road, and someone doesn't realize what they have, replaces it with a standard 3-wire unit, and then wonders why it doesn't work.
