Ron - A few thoughts... It's not likely anything was damage by the A and F wires being reversed. You are correct that you should see 7-1/2 to 8 volts or so at the battery if it's being charged by the generator. Your resistance reading across the cutout contacts is way out of whack! It should read 0 ohms (or perhaps 0.1 ohm if you have a good DVM). Your reading of 12.5 ohms says the cutout bad. You might try lightly filing the cutout contacts and see if you can get the resistance down to 0 ohms. However my recommendation would be to get rid of the cutout and replace it with a voltage regulator. A regulator elimates the field resistor on the light switch, and does a much better job of maintaining the battery. Hope this helps!!
