You need to get a special kind of scanner to do slides, negatives and other transparencies. I use an Epson 3200 Photo scanner. This does slides, color negs, B&W negs, magazine pages, photos etc. You can also buy scanners built just for 35 mm slides and negs, these will do a slightly better job than the Epson 3200 but don't have the flexibility to do 2 1/4 negs or 4.5 X6 cm etc. The Epson 3200 does a good enough job on the 35mm to allow good 8X12 prints to be made. I also have a Canon i9900 printer which makes the best color prints I have ever seen...as good as an excellent photographic process. And being a old dark room guy, I am pretty fussy about this. Both the scanner and the printer are in the $400-500 range. I run all this with a Mac G-4 using Photoshop 7 but it could be run on a PC also. You do need something pretty fast because scanned slides need to be enlarged to be useful, and those files can get huge. Contact me direct at GWellman@centurytel.net if you wish.
