I think it would depend on weather or not it has a water filter. If this engine has never been rebuilt it could be in the 30 year old plus range and without a water filter cavation of the sleeves can be a problem. If it has a water filter and has had good service the german engine should easily go 10000 hours as stated by KB 826.
I have a 826 without a water filter never rebuilt and 7500 hours and have wondered the same thing. I have been using an additive in the antifreeze I got at my IH dealer. Still feel I am playing with time.
