In Iowa they call them a spike-tooth harrow too. We pull them behind a disk sometimes to help level and break up clods. You do need to have the tines pointed back, not forward, and yes they will drag every stick stalk and piece of trash around if not angled correctly. They are also very good (had a 4 section unit) at puncturing tires if the hired man parks it in the weeds with the outer sections folded over (ie: upside down with spikes up) on the inner sections. You woldn't believe how fast the air comes out of tires with 4 or 5 1" holes.....
