I would advise getting a new head gasket. You are having the head milled, thus you are changing the contour of the mating surfaces of the head and gasket. There may be areas where the head was high and put more pressure on the gasket causing it to squash thinner in some areas than in others. Reinstalling it with a truly flat head may cause these areas to not have adequate pressure on them, resulting in a failure.

When others say that they hare reused gaskets, I presume that they just pulled and replaced the head without doing any machining to the head or block. I too have done this on older engines (my 22-36 for example) where the compression ratio is low. I usually soak them overnight in water, and then apply gun grease (as someone else suggested) to the surfaces before reinstalling. Works fine most of the time but I’m not sure I’d risk it on a 706 that I was depending on using a lot.
