Wel thats a yes, no , and sort of. Yes the fact that the engine is running causes it to heat up but and this is where it gets sticky. The engine running causes the heat but if the termo was in correctly it would not heat up so its sort of like the old one about the chicken and the egg. The cause for the over heating isn't the fact its running but the fact that the thermo isn't in right.
