Never ran one of them little balers, we used to have 286 and 426's though. The speed you travel and the side you feed the windrow into the pickup can make a big differance. The 286 I baled with liked to be fed close to the plunger and dads wanted to be at the other end. If your's has the swinging steel forks like a 286 at the back end of the crossfeed make sure the spring is good and the forks will swing freely so it doesn't drag hay back out of the chamber. We went to the indexable type feed tins instead of the fixed angle next to the plunger. We always made fair bales, but a JD would make 2/3 as many per morning that weighed 80lbs instead of 100, but they were perfect square's. Jake
