The 706 D with a D-282 in it was indeed hard to start, but iffen you keep a good set of glow plugs in it and change the twin 6 volt batterys over to a big 4-D or 8-D battery,(you will hafta make you a battery box for this) you should have no trouble starting it. However, check the tractor, some of the later model 706's had a German D-310 motor in them, iffen this tractor has this motor it is a breeze to start, Collins Duke Okeechobee, Florida
