I can't think of a good use for tape unless you like to re-do things a second or third time to get it right. Most times it works but often it can leak where a good pipe dope with teflon just plain works unless there is something else wrong. I used to use tape sometimes til my last plumb job where 6 tape joints leaked on start-up at 2:00 in the morning and I had to work til 4:00 in the morning to seal it up and get it on-line.
