Replace the Pilot Bearing and clean that area up while you are in there. It has a tendancy to hold grime and gunk in that area. Also replace any oil seal you even look at. You want to only drop that belly pump once. It is nasty. Yank the bolts and run. Do not lay under it thinking you can hold it up. Blacksmith's can....not you or me. If you take the tranny top off, check the springs and detent balls in the cover where the shifter comes in. Clean them up and lubricate them too. That area gets completely neglected in my view. Buy gasket material at the auto store and make your own gaskets. Just use the old one as a template and cut them out. Use RTV sealer. Now is a good time to drain your tranny fluid and replace it. Do not drop parts down in there if you do not drain it. It has fishing beat all to heck. Be careful working with the parts. Most are not made anymore and finding replacements can be done but it is time-consuming. Have fun and let us know how it goes! Scott

On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
