Super M has disk brakes. M has band brakes, except for the very last 1952 Ms, which also had disk brakes because IH ran out of band brake parts at the factory. Super M has more power. Super M has faster gears. Stage II Super Ms (mostly 1953 models) have live hydraulics, though "factory" live hydraulics can be retrofitted to earlier Super Ms and late Ms. Live hydraulics were optional, but were a popular option. Super MTAs also have a TA and live PTO. With the exception of the disk brakes, TA and live PTO, parts could be swapped from M to super and back with very little major mechanical work, so if you've got a "mutt" you may need to do some investigative work. There were also aftermarket disk brakes for regular Ms. The tractor's serial number tag will be the final authority.
