Rings are not all equal. There are rings for extreme applications like Automotive racing, and twostroke motorcycle engines that use compression pressure to apply more contact pressure to the cylinder wall Often called "dikes" type rings. They are L shaped, with the Vertical part of the L upwards against the cyl wall. They also require a special ring groove and, thus piston, to use them. These are not (in any normal application) used in tractors. Good quality rings designed for the engine (usually chrome edged for durability) are used. One gets high compression pistons, smaller combustion chambered heads (for instance from a propane version of the engine), or mills down the surface of the cylinder head (to reduce chamber volume). I hope this clears up the issue.
