I agree with twopop--check for air lock. However, be careful loosening the nut when the tractor is running. If the pump should be pumping, the oil may shoot out at high pressure. (If all the handles are centered there shouldn't be much pressure, but I'd still wear gloves and goggles just to be safer.) By the way, is your 350 a Farmall or Utility? The breather location I mentioned previously is for the Farmall. I'm not familiar with the Ute, but I think its under the seat. Also, I don't have power steering, so I don't know how its plumbed or where the splitter is.
