I would agree that you need to look that intake system over closely. Look for cracks on the intake portion of the manifold or the gaskets. Sounds like she might be getting an extry gulp of air at idle. Also sounds like she is running rich, causing plugs to foul. Make sure the carb is properly adjusted and choke is opening completely. Once you've got her all fixed up take her out and work her well....and see what you find from there. Good luck, don't give up...that M is a very fine machine, and you will grow to love it over the years. The hard part of ownership is behind you now.
