Thanks to those that gave advise on why the tractor wouldn't start. This was the first time that I'd changed the points/condenser and that was the problem. It cranked right up. Two questions that I'd appreciate help on. I set the point gap at .020. Is that correct? Also, the threaded stud that the point spring and condenser wire hooks to is either slightly stripped or has the wrong size nut on it. I guess it is possible that the nut threads are stripped. The nut is obviously a replacement. It is bright brass colored. I was in a hurry and had poor light, both of which prevented me from exploring the problem further. When I tighten down the nut, it jumped a thread at the very end. I snugged it down, but it isn't as tight as it needs to be. I'm going to get a work light and check the threads. If the threads look ok, I'll check the size of the nut and whether it is stripped. If the stud is stripped, can it be replaced? It looks like it passes all the way through the distributor housing. The point spring and condenser wire connects on the inside. The coil wire on the outside. If not, maybe a small washer will space the nut onto good threads. Thanks for you help.
