The spiral-wound batteries are definitely superior to any others. They are more pricey, though. Beware of one item when installing a spiral battery in an older machine: These batteries are particular about the maximum voltage applied during charging. I believe you never want to apply more than 7.5 volts. What I'm saying is - be sure your charging system is in good shape and your voltage regulator (yes, a voltage regulator - not cutout) is working well.
