My grandfather had a McCormick-Deering binder, but his was horse drawn. My uncle and i would go along behind it and stand the bundles up in shocks of 3 or 4, with one on top! Later, we'd go out with the horse drawn wagon and pick them up and take them to the thrasher, when it came to the farm!
I was always fascinated by that machine, and i could never figure out how it could tie knots in the binder twine, and tie them up! I do know, when it ran out, Grampaw had some choice words to say to that machine!
Some moderns say the good old days weren't so good, looking back now, but, we didn't have anything better to work with, we used what we had!

P.S. It must have been good for Grampaw--he lived to be 98 years old!
