My N has a new barn buddy - BUT...

Hey Folks,

First time on the Farmall Forum. Been hangin my hat at the Ford N Forum, Up til now.

Ran acrost a 52 Cub and purchased it for the bill at the mechanic shop - no more. It had had a rebuilt governor and rebuit carb put on, all new tune-up parts, new used rear rims (fresh paint, but pitted steel underneath), new battery, engine oil/filter and coolant change, and tubes all around. It starts wonerfully and purrs like a cat until you get her in a light load. Such as climbing the hill out back. It should be able to handle this hill with little to no throttle, but instead (even at high throttle) the engine purrs to a stop. No kicking, no backfiring, not even a spudder, just calmly loses RPM until she quits. Starts back up like she"s ready to go. It will take the hill, but any more load and it quits. I can kill it easily by brake loading. There is some blow by but no smoke to speak of. The previous owner (not a tractor type - inherted it many years ago and let it set in storage til the tires were flat and it would not run) put it in the shop to git her runnin and was shocked at the speed at which the bill climbed and stopped at "runnin" not "runnin right". What"s the Cub Trick? I have to assume the mechanics or rebuiders failed somewhere, but wanted to check with the expert hobbyist before I started reworking and exploring. I have adjusted the governor rod to either side of the original setting to see no difference and have tweeked the carb adjustments around with no affect.

Just wanted to introduce myself and get the Cub rolling. I don"t know what I"ll use it for, but it sure looks good in the barn.
