Why can't you do this: Put it in a gear and carefully let the clutch out until the tractor starts moving, then push the clutch back in. That'll tell you which gears are forward and which is reverse. Maneuver the tractor into an open area and try each gear. It'll be fairly obvious which is 1st, 2nd, 3rd. 1st is slow, 2nd is slightly faster, and 3rd is way faster.
