Hi William, had the same thing years ago on our 46 after in drop into a woodchuck hole, plunger hit the needles.

The problem is the U shaped needle carrier has become twisted. It is hard to see the twist until you remove the U carrier from the baler.

If I remember correctly, when the U is standing up vertically the welded on bolt holes should be perfectly horizontal. It will be twisted right where the bottom of the U goes vertical. If there is still paint on the U you may notice stress cracks in the paint.

We used an oxy-acetalyne tourch to heat the U and straighten the verticals.
