My neighbor decided to get rid of his old IH 230 - Won't start, hydraulics don't work, got a bullet hole in the radiator. He told me to haul it off and do what I want with it. He has a "new" Long 350 he uses now. I "fixed" the hydraulic pump for him last year and I think I know what to do to get the system operating again - gotta get creative with the priming. The radiator leak is supposed to small - said to be "a single pellet from a .410". I didn't see any large holes but I guess I'll find out more about that in a little while. Wife & I towed the 230 to my shop this morning. Starting problem probably is 99% because he didn't shut the gas off and he leaves the tractor in the weather, uncoverd. I donated my time and material and built him a shed for the tractor last year, but the Long moved into it when he got it last Fall. I hate to see this old girl rusting away so I guess she's got a new home, now. She'll have her own stall in the barn, too. She'll be nice and cozy beside my 1958 D17 Series 1. Now for the questions - where can I find a rebuilt hydraulic pump and rebuild kits for the hydraulic valves & cylinder for it? The reason I had to "fix" that pump last year is I couldn't locate a replacement for it. Next question, is there such an animal as a belly mower to fit this tractor? It's got a narrow front and I haven't looked for the serial number yet to get the year. Any info will be appreciated! Thanks!

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
