From what I have read, I am looking for the spot where the cylinder is up (TDC)and both of the valves are closed; the point right after the compression stroke and right before the injection and combustion stroke (I think). If both of the valves should be closed, couldn't I test the current position by blowing air into the cylinder? If the cylinder is sealed (both valves closed), it should pretty much hold air. If it were at the opposite TDC, the air would flow out because the intake valve would be open. Would this test work? Or, since it won't damage the pump, if it runs, but no power, I guess I could back off the pump and rotate it 180 degrees to the other TDC. It would be nice to have it close to the right spot though by the time it is ready to go. Currently, the injectors are in the shop for testing.

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
