Jim, I think this mower had a hand lift at one time also. Someone before me had some kind of a chain lift on it like it went to a arm of a 3 point or something. A gentleman from this web site sent me pictures of the hydraulic attachment from his IH 27V Owners Manual. I used the pictures to attach my hydraulic cylinder. The cylinder is only used to lift the sickle bar up on corners and for short transportation. For cutting height there are "shoes" at each end of the sickle bar that the sickle bar slides on when cutting hay. You take bolts out and make your height adjustments on these "shoes". You may want to find a Owners Manual. I wish I had one when I was restoring mine but I got it done with the help of the good people from this site. Good Luck! Ken
