Locally we are subjected to vehicle emissions checks courtesy of the local gestapo. My fuel injected Ford Ranger didn't meet the specifications so it was down to my trusted mechanic to shell out the obligatory 150 dollars before I could be retested. He took apart the fuel injecting system and the way I understood it back flushed it with a pressurized solvent for some period of time. It did indeed pass the next round of tests and does run noticeably smoother, though I have noticed no increase in gasoline mileage. It did do what it claimed, though in my case to be frank it was not otherwise worth the money for a truck that I don't put 1000 miles on a year. None of this of course makes any difference to local beauruecrats who are hard at work finding creative new ways to spend my time and money for their peace of mind.
