Shoe, Normally I would be 100% behind you, matter of fact that was what I expected when I pulled the head. You may still indeed be right. Two things are pushing me towards trying a “quick” fix. One is the fact that it would be a LOT better for me to do overhaul this engine (it’s in my backhoe) when the ground is froze up, and second, I’m not seeing enough wear on the cylinders to merit this kind of oil consumption. My two theories are that the rings are stuck with carbon (the head is really dirty) and/or this engine was overheated before I got it and the temper was taken out of the rings causing them to seal poorly.
