Yup, it should be vented. Do you have an origianl gas cap? If so, did you know about the Navistar Free Gas Cap Replacement Program? The form is on the Cub Manual Server at the url below, cut and paste into your browser then check out the Navistar Free Gas Cap Offer Form link, print it out, fill it in, pop it in the mail. For every IH, Farmall, tractor serial number for tractors you own, you can get a free replacement safety cap. Some places are actually selling them for $30.00, but why buy one when the Free Replacement Program is still in place. These caps are being offered because of litigation over fires being caused by spills from the original gas caps which can leak under certain conditions. Hope this is of some use.
