On my M I also put an inline fuel filter in just ahead of the sediment bowl under the tank. I've got metal fuel line coming part way back from the carb and then a hose the rest of the way back to the sediment bowl. I cut the hose just ahead of the sediment bowl and put in a plastic see through inline gas filter (bought at walmart) and haven't had a dirty carb problem since. I'd follow Rusty Farmall's advice and clean the tank first, but then if anything is left the filter will catch it. With the see through plastic filters you can see if the filter is getting dirty and replace it before it goes so dirty it won't flow. Plus if the motor sputters and dies and you look at the see through filter and there's no gas in it you'll know you forgot to put gas in it and you are now out of gas... Learned that last week..... Oooops... Got too much in a hurry... later, scruffy
